Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Entry/Exit System was fully implemented at all air and sea border crossing points in Portuguese territory on April 10, 2026. The system had been introduced gradually from October 12, 2025.
EES applies to third-country nationals traveling for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, including travelers who need a short-stay visa and travelers who are visa-exempt.
The system collects biometric data and replaces the previous passport-stamp process. Portugal recommends the official Travel to Europe app as a preparation tool, but travelers should still follow the instructions at the border.
